Before being able to study abroad, you must put your time into the application process. In this post, I shall be specifically talking about the Mānoa International Exchange (MIX) application for University of Hawai'i at Mānoa students and the Yonsei International Summer School application. Keep in mind that depending on where you attend school currently and abroad, the application process may vary.
Mānoa International Exchange (MIX)
MIX is one of the study-abroad offices available for University of Hawai'i students, offering many different opportunities to travel as an exchange student with their partner universities. In this section, I shall talk about the application process for MIX.
1. Apply for MIX
In order to be selected to study abroad, you must first apply to be admitted into the MIX program; be sure to be sophomore-standing and have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
For the application, you need to submit a letter of recommendation to their office (located at the end of this section). Be sure to thoroughly research where you wish to study abroad as you must explicitly state and explain which university you wish to attend. Also, I recommend having your passport ready, meaning that it will not expire within 6 months after your study abroad term. Lastly, allow an ample amount of time to complete this Google Forms as it is quite lengthy. Depending on when you wish to study abroad, the deadlines shall follow as shown:
Summer, Fall, & Academic Year Exchanges: Feb. 1
Spring Exchanges: May 1
2. Nomination Process
Once you have been accepted into the MIX program, you must apply to your nominated exchange university, attend a pre-departure orientation as well as complete the following documents:
Learning Agreement & Course Approval Form
Health Insurance Form
Health History & Clearance Form
Complete these tasks in a timely manner as it will affect your status to study abroad. Personally, the course approval forms took the longest time to complete since you must get various forms completed for each course to transfer back to UH and you must meet with the academic advisors of each department depending on the courses you take.

Yonsei International Summer School (YISS)
The Yonsei International Summer School application is very straight-forward, being very clear about its process as seen below in the image with the five steps of your application status.

1. Created ID & PW
In this step, simply sign up by entering an ID (preferably your school ID number) and your email. You shall be given an initial password via email which you can change when you first log in.
2. Online Submitted
This entails the submission of your online application which is fairly simple and easy, asking for your basic information such as your personal and academic information, emergency contact, and study abroad information.
3. Documents Received
This is the longest wait process as you must submit your official transcript via mail to:
Yonsei International Summer School Yonsei University
Room S302, Building 310, 50 Yonsei-ro, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, 03722, Korea
Also, if you are not an exchange student, this is where you would wire transfer 100,000 won for the application fee. For MIX applicants, you shall not be paying this fee since you are an exchange student paying home tuition.
4. Admitted
You shall receive an official letter of admission from Yonsei University in your email once they finished processing your application!
5. Enrollment Completed
This means you truly completed the entire Yonsei application! Congratulations! But wait, there's more...
6. Housing
When abroad, you are going to need a place to live. You have two options to go with: on-campus housing or off-campus housing. Currently, I shall be living in the off-campus option at DMCville due to the occupied status of the on-campus housing. I downloaded and sent an Excel sheet with my information to reserve a spot. This option is around 1,500,000 won for a double room (sharing with 3 other people) for the length of the summer period. You can wire transfer this amount or pay in cash at the desk.
If you wish to dorm on-campus, be sure to complete your application process as quickly as possible since spaces usually fill fast! The housing for on-campus is through a different part of the university; it requires a new account login for the housing website based on your admission number from the original application. The cost for SK Global for a double room was 860,000 won and would go to a different bank account for Yonsei's housing.
7. Extracurricular Activities (Optional)
However, in addition to these five steps, there are also additional optional steps you can complete. YISS provides extracurricular activities available for their students where they can take one-day trips or activity classes on each Friday since no classes are held that day. For Summer 2018, they offered the option between taekwondo classes or four one-day trips for 50,000 won: Seoul City Tour, Boryeong Mud Festival, Korean Folk Village, and DMZ Tour. In addition to these fun activities, YISS also offers a three-day field trip prior to the start of the summer school. This time around, the trip is to the Gangwon Province and cost 500,000 won. In order to participate in these activities, you must wire transfer the total amount to Yonsei University.
8. Internship (Optional)
You can also apply for the research or corporate internships they have for the summer, which would take place 14:00 - 18:00 Mondays to Fridays. The period to apply was from April 9, 2018 - May 1, 2018. They had quite a range of companies/businesses available for internships.
